Brooklyn Raga Massive kicks off their monthly showcase series for deep-listening audiences. This is a chance to check out the Raga Massive artists in a formal concert style setting, without the distractions of laptops, espresso machines and drunk chatter at the bar. The BRM monthly showcase presents Raga music in the formal environment, where it is traditionally heard. Please join us as we build our Indian Classical Music offering to include this monthly event for Deep-Listening audiences. All proceeds of this event will benefit The Gurukul School and Anindo Chatterjee School of Tabla.

Pandit Krishna Bhatt’s performances of Hindustani ragas have won the admiration of audiences in India, Asia, Europe and North America. His innovative style of music combines a rich blend of Gayaki (vocal) and Tantrakari (instrumental) techniques and musical compositions. His music is noted for its virtuosity, originality and depth of feeling that is conveyed to the listeners.

A rare luminary of Indian Classical Music, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee has attained new heights in the art of tabla playing. Trained from his early childhood by Guru Padmabhusan Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Anindo has developed a unique style expanding upon his vast knowledge of the tradition. Both technically and artistically, he is a milestone for future generations to follow, for whom he is a devoted Guru with some very promising disciples, including his son Anubrata. He is equally regarded as a soloist and an accompanist and has shared the stage with almost all the great musicians of India. In acknowledgment of his immense contribution to music, he was awarded the “Sangeet Natak Akademy Award” in 2002, presented by His Excellency The President of India.

New York is honored to host a reunion of two stellar musicians of the North Indian classical tradition. Sitarist Krishna Bhatt is one of the top sitarists of the world, performing in the style passed down by Pandit Nikhil Banerjee, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, and Pandit Ravi Shankar; Anindo Chatterjee is acknowledged as among the great tabla maestros of India. It is a rare event to have these two living legends together, as they inspire each other into flights of imagination, melodic poetry and rhythmic improvisation of the finest quality.

Part of WMI’s Masters of Indian Music & Dance series – Continuing WMI’s long tradition of presenting the finest in classical Indian performing arts.
